Z is for Zen

Have you ever reached a state of Zen?  I think I may have once during a massage and once when I was trapshooting.  Maybe twice when I was trapshooting.

My mind is so busy and I skip from one thought to the next so quickly that it's all but impossible to reach a state of enlightenment.  I think the closest I ever come is just as I'm falling asleep.

Really good trapshooters can focus completely for an entire event (100 targets).  I can focus for a little while and next thing you know, I think "That cloud looks like a horse", "what are we having for supper?", "Why did I miss that target?".  The few times that I have really shot well, have been those times when I can really concentrate on each target and my movements and reactions.  One good friend of ours is actually exhausted when he's done shooting.  He concentrates and works so hard that he's physically tired when he's done.  I don't know if you know much about trapshooting, but it's not a physically difficult sport.  You need strong arms and upper body strength but most of the top shooters in the world are pretty chubby.

In Spokane, there is a highway straight out from the trapline.  I never had a problem with the cars driving by.  Lost of people complained about it drawing your eye, but I managed to keep it out of my head...until the day I put my gun up and there went the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile.  Now I can't help but look for it.

I would love to be able to meditate and reach a point of Zen or enlightenment, but I just don't know how and I'm not sure I'm capable.

p.s.  Thank you for joining me on the A to Z Challenge.  It's been fun and I've enjoyed the comments and reading other people's blogs.  I look forward to doing it again next year.  Maybe I'll work on a theme for next year.
