My new office...

So I'm working out of a jobsite office for the next week or two or three.  This project is super busy and requires more of my time that I have been able to give it lately.
Jealous?  Yeah, I don't blame you.  See that green porta-potty on the end?  That's mine.  The boys get a bigger one right next to it.  I have a great metal folding chair and an eight foot table for my desk.  Well, it's not just my desk.  I get to share it with two Superintendents.  It's great.  They like to keep the temperature just about right for hanging meat.  It's so great.

Actually, the best part of the whole deal is being out of any office.  I'm spending most of my time walking the site and seeing what our crews are up to.  Lots of walking.  I'm happy.

Last week I went to a meeting in Eugene.  It's probably the "greenest" city in Oregon.  Ashland might be close.  Anyhoo, the building where I had my meeting had signs all of the place talking about how sustainably everything was built and blah-dee-blah about that.  I went to use the restroom and the water was yellow.  Like someone had just peed, nit wiped and left it there.  Gross-out.  I flushed it and the water was still yellow.  "Must be something with the pipes" I thought.  Nope.  It's recycled water.  I saw this sign while I was doing my business:
No really?  I always fill my water bottle in a toilet stall.  That's gross with a capital G.

Later in the week I was stuck in traffic behind this:
You can't see it very well, but it's being towed.    Why and to where is all I could think about for about 40 minutes behind it.

Sunday we had the Carter family picnic, which I think used to be every year, but at some point became every other year or something I don't know.  Every time we go I meet another cousin of the Brown Eyed Man.  Here we are having our picture taken:
And here I am asking Brown Eyed man why he wasn't smiling in the picture.
So, that's the latest.  I hope to have lots of interesting tidbits to tell you about work from the field, but so far seeing a deer was the highlight of the day.

Oh, you may have noticed my "Moms for Mitt" link.  Yes, in case you hadn't noticed my comments about guns, we are very pro-second amendment.  That is one of the main issues I care about when voting.  Usually, I have found that when I agree with a candidate on gun issues, I will agree with them on most other issues as well.

I wouldn't say I am ultra conservative.  I am probably more Libertarian than anything.  I used to be very liberal.  When I was in my early twenties I was super liberal.  Then, when my biological clock started ticking, I started becoming more conservative.  I tend to think that people ought to be given the tools to succeed and the opportunity to thrive.  I think we should take care of those who cannot take care of themselves but not those who are able and capable and choose to take advantage of the system.

I'm wishy-washy on pro-life/pro-choice issues.  I feel there are so many circumstances that support each side of that coin.  Same with Gay Marriage.  Not really for or against it.

What I am for is less government and more personal responsibility and I feel that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can help lead us in that direction.  I don't understand those who are for Obama.  I never felt that he had enough business or practical experience to be the President and after 3.5 years I still feel like he doesn't know what he's doing.  I know that a large part of the position our country is in falls on the shoulders of congress, but the President must take responsibility for what has happened on his watch.  I don't see that in him.  I see excuses and blame and that's something I won't put up with from our kids so why would I put up with it from our President?

So there you go.  I know a lot of the blogs that I read think much differently from me.  But I do want to say that one of the best parts of our country is our ability to disagree and maintain civility.

I may talk more about why i think this way later.  I may not.  Yesterday I could have written a novel about it but I'm not feeling it today.

So.  Happy Monday
