Happy Anniversary

53 years ago today, Brown Eyed Man's parents were married in Roseburg, Oregon.  48 years ago today, my parents were married in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Brown Eyed Man's Dad and Mom grew up one house away from each other.  He's two years older than her and they got married two months after she graduated from high school.

The town of Roseburg had a huge gas explosion a few days before their wedding.  They had to scramble to find someone to make their cake.

My Mom and Dad grew up one block away from each other.  Dad went into the Navy after High School.  His brother, my Uncle Don, is the same age as my Mom and one week, when she knew my Dad was coming home on leave, she stalked him and they went on two dates.  He moved back to California and they wrote letters.  They were able to talk once in a while on the phone, but they basically became engaged long distance.  When he came home for the wedding, it was 1 year, 9 months, and 11 days since they had seen each other.  Now they've been married 48 years.

Dave and I have been blessed to have grown up in what I call White Picket Fence Land.  We each had two parents who took their vows seriously and raised their families together.

We have Mom’s who cooked all of our meals, made sure we had a clean home and clean clothes and still made time to play games with us in the yard or drive us to the swimming pool with friends.  We have Dad’s who came home from working all day to spend the evening helping us with homework and  teaching us important things like how to build a go-cart or how to shoot a gun.
We (my Brother and his family and Brown Eyed Man's Sister and her family) are all blessed to have been raised by these four people.  It's only a coincidence that they were married on the same date, but the similarities in our lives are too many to mention.
