My "M" post was going to be about Melatonin. I have problems falling asleep and staying asleep. I also have Restless Leg syndrome which means that I don't sleep well once I do fall asleep.
A year or two ago I went to a sleep doctor and spent the night there. They thought I had sleep apnea. Turns out I kick my legs an average of 47 times an hour all night long. The doctor says I'm lucky to still be married considering I kick so much. For years, the Brown Eyed Man had been telling me I was kicking all the blankets around and I didn't believe that it was me. My question is "Why aren't my legs in better shape?". I digress. I take medication now for the kicky legs.
I started drinking valerian root tea to go to sleep. It works great but it tastes terrible. I've found a few different brands that taste a little better. Yogi tea is my favorite.
One day a friend suggested Melatonin. He says he uses that to go to sleep and it works with your normal sleep cycle so you don't wake up groggy. I recently bought some and my nights have never been more entertaining.
The first night a had a dream...a dream that one day, no not that kind of dream..I had a dream that I was pregnant with elephants. Five of them. I gave birth to them but they didn't live because I couldn't keep them alive because I'm not an elephant. I was not equipped. It happened several times that night. Each time I gave birth and each time they all died. When I woke in the morning, my stomach muscles were sore. That's what happens with you birth 24 baby elephants.
Last night I dreamt that I was dating the Pope. He was much hotter than the current Pope and everyone was jealous of our relationship. Most people said "I didn't know he could have a girlfriend". I didn't either, but he was hot and who was I to question the Pope? We were on a shopping trip to New York. He's so good to me.
I don't remember all of the dreams, but EVERY night that I take that Melatonin I have some crazy-ass dream. It does help me fall asleep and stay asleep though, and I have a great story to tell in the morning so it's a win-win.

What an interesting effect. I started reading before bed, and it helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep.

ReplyDeleteI don't try melatonin but I do have some very odd dreams. Last night I dreamt I was a doctor and saw a lady who was expecting a baby. I told her she'd be fine if she ate pasta salad.
ReplyDeleteMelatonin increases your deep sleep, so perhaps that's why your dreams are more vivid. As for why they are crazy... that's up to you. I also take melatonin when I get really bad... works like a charm every time.
