Have I ever mentioned that I live near the state capital of Oregon and we have no really good health food store? We have one that's pretty good, but it's no Whole Foods. We just got a Trader Joes. We basically have nothing. This is the lamest state capital. Anyway, my new favorite yogurt is $1.79 locally, but today I stopped at Whole Foods In Portland and got every container they had for $ 1.49 each. Score.
2. The Tiramisu blanket from Posy gets Cozy I pretty much love most things that Alicia Paulson does and I've made this blanket over and over for several babies. This time around, I'm making one for a little boy and the colors of his bedding are grey and orange. When I first heard that I thought it was odd. I still do really, but I love how the colors look together. I think I'm going to make it without the ribbon this time. The blanket will be grey:
Then I'll crochet a row or two of orange:
Then I'll add the scallops around the outside in grey.
3. This little Ruger Bearcat.

The Brown Eyed Man has a friend who bought it the other day. I think I'm going to buy it from him for Brown Eyed Man's Birthday. It reminds him of being a little kid. At the end of their hunting trips, he and his best friend Calvin would get to plink around with Calvin's Mom's Ruger Bearcat. These boys were 9-12 years old at the time. I know most people out there think this is outrageous. The fact is, as kids we were all schooled in the proper handling of a gun. I can vividly remember my Brother getting in a heap of trouble for briefly pointing a toy gun and me when we were kids. There were simples rules and our kids learned the same way we did. Sometimes it wasn't pleasant, but the memory of that punishment and the fear of it happening again kept us from making what could have been a life-changing mistake.
I once asked my Brother whether he ever wanted to get Dad's guns out when we were kids. Maybe show them to his friends when Mom and Dad weren't home? The answer was "Yes I did, but I knew I would get my ass beat if I did."
Do I sound defensive? People that don't understand guns and their use bug me. So many people don't see the true enjoyment that can be had by shooting targets, the good sportsmanship it teaches, the family bond that grows when we all participate in shooting together. It's not just hunting. Very little of our gun use involves hunting anymore. I also don't like the idea of someone trying to tell me that I can't carry a gun to defend myself and my family. I'll go on about that some other day.
I hope you have a great weekend. I plan to:
a. Crochet
b. Paint a bathroom
c. Do some paperwork
