The ol' pigskin

Clover has taken up cigars.  Doesn't she realize the risk?
Actually, it's rolled up pig skin.  They are like heroin to her.  She carts these things all over the house.  Last night I was sitting on the sofa in a rare moment of do-nothing-ness and she hopped up and stuck her nose way down behind the cushions.  Out comes a pig skin.  Gross.  I'm sure it was all gooey with dog spit when it went in there.

In other pig skin news, USC has been stripped of their BCS Championship from 2004.  Mainly because of alleged benefits given or paid to Reggie Bush.  In response to this news, my friend from college (University of Oregon), Jay said "Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha".  And I completely agree.

What is annoying about this is (a) they aren't awarding the championship to the University of Oklahoma who lost the game to USC.  Nor are they (b) awarding it to undeafeated Auburn. Nor are they (c) requiring the PAC-10 to pay back the money they were awarded for USC winning the championship.  So who cares if they aren't the 2004 champions?

What irritates me most is that there is no penalty of real significance.  That's just the way people are today.  We can't really punish anyone because it might hurt their feelings or it might embarrass them or they might not succeed later in life.  What successful person do you know who has not learned a lesson from mistakes that they have made?

Take Mr. Weiner for example (would another pig skin reference here be inappropriate?).  He wants to say "I just made a mistake".  No Weiner, you made a ton of mistakes.  You chose to make the same "mistake" over and over and over again.  You chose to marry a woman and then continue making this same mistake.  At some point it stops being a mistake and becomes a choice.  After you got caught making this mistake, you chose to lie about it.  Now, we are to believe that was a mistake as well.

The Brown-eyed Man always says "You are the sum of the decisions you have made".  The decision may be to hide the fact that your football players are being paid to play, it may be to lie about sexting, it may be to lie about why your work isn't done.  It doesn't matter what the lie is, the point is that it becomes a part of who you are and subsequently becomes a part of where you are.

USC will, for many years, be remembered as that one school who had their championship taken away.  Weiner's office, oh hell, the whole of Congress is already known for these long-term (and sometimes short-term) senators and representatives who do something so inconceivably stupid and then wonder why the media won't let them "get on with the business of our country".  That's what you should have been doing in the first place!  Why are you even on Twitter? Don't you have something better to do?

It bothers me that this person is in a position where he affects decisions made for our country and he can't seem to make a good decision with regard to his own life.  It bothers me that schools are willing to look the other way when rules are being broken and to ultimately engage in covering up those violations.  Schools!  Institutes of higher education!

So, to sum it up: Weiner should resign, the University of Oklahoma should be named National Champion of 2004 and people should start taking some responsibility for their actions.  Admit when you're wrong.  It's much easier in the end.
