So The Girl has taken up modeling. For the last few years everyone and his or her brother have asked if she models. She doesn't. We have a few friends that do so we got a little advice. Created an account on a website where models and photographers can meet up and potentially trade services. They get to take your picture and use/sell them how ever they please and you, as the model, get to use the photos as part of the portfolio.
So, she signs up. Within a few hours she has about 4-5 photographers that are interested in "shooting" her. We very quickly learned that not all photographers want to shoot her with clothes on. One guy even wanted to do some weird fantasy-ish thing where she would end up looking like a mermaid and/or a fairy. The only problem was that both the mermaids and the fairies were topless. Not the look we were hoping for.
After doing some investigation and talking with some of our friends, we agreed to meet with 4 photographers over the last couple of weeks. Of course, I went along so no one would steal her. I have to say that I LOVED the time to just sit and watch her work. Nothing for me to do but sit. I read 98 pages of a book I've had for 3 years in just 2 days.
The first place we shot was under the Hawthorne bridge in Portland. Kind of a cool place. The weather started out pretty well but it poured by the end of the day. I wandered around a bit while they were working and even found a cool European antique shop where I bought a wire basket for the front porch. I'll post a photo of that later.
We had to move off the railroad tracks several times due to oncoming trains.
The next day was out in the country and I spent most of the time in the car because even though its June, it was about 49 degrees outside. Poor Girl had to pose in bikinis and shorts in that weather. The pictures turned out great. These are not them. These are me sitting in the car with my cell phone retro camera app.
Here is was blew me away:
1. All of the photographers asked whether she had done this before because they had to give her very little direction. She must pose a lot in her room or something.
2. After about two poses I would have exhausted my repertoire and would probably be bored with the whole process. She carried on for 3 1/2 hours each time!
3. She loves it! She's excited about the future of it and I have to admit, even though the bikini shots make me a little uncomfortable, she looks GREAT in these photos. I wish we could have them all over our house.
Now I look at her pictures and see her repeating a pose and have found myself trying to tell her what to do. I'm morphing into a stage mom. Good God, I hope not.
