Last night I had a conference call and since I had to meet The Girl In McMinnville for a modeling session - Which she rocked. I only stayed long enough to make sure that the photographer wasn't an axe murderer and then went on my merry way. Well, I went on my way. I had a conference call and I figured I would knock that out while driving home so I didn't have to sit on the phone in a parking lot or at home.
I arrived home shortly after 6:30. My conference call was still going on so I'm sitting in the car in the driveway when the Brown-eyed Man comes racing out of the house "GETOUTTATHECARJEN GETOUTTATHECAR!!!" I assume, quite reasonably, that there is a fire going on in my backseat or a plane about to crash into our neighborhood. What I find is a Momma duck and her little babies have just walked down the side of our house and are headed to the neighbors. Brown eyed Man knew that I would love to see that so he made sure I got out. I love him for that. Here they are across the street wondering whether they want to go between the two houses and meet up with 3 crazy barking dogs. They chose not to.
Just then, neighbor girl (who has only lived there at least a year and I can't remember her name) comes out to see what the hell is going on. We explain the ducks and start to go back into the house when she starts screaming "Oh no no no no no no". One stray duckling had ended up in her backyard and her two basset hounds, Oliver and Flash, were chasing him.
I tossed my phone and keys to Brown eyed Man and threw myself on one of the bassets. They aren't fast, but they sure are heavy. We put them away in her house and then went after the baby duck. We herded him this way and that and *poof*, he disappeared. We couldn't find him anywhere. Then we found him. Then we lost him again. I hope he some how found his momma.
At least we know she was still alive last time her saw her. On my way in to work this morning, I saw a dead Doe on one side of the highway and a fawn on the other. Poor baby has a lot of growing up to do. I know the Brown eyed Man won't let me take him home either because when I asked if we could keep the duck he said no. Such a stick in the mud.
