My authentic house

I've just finished reading the BlogHer newsletter for this month.  The theme is "Authenticity".  In an effort to be more authentic, I will show you photos of Girl voting for the first time that include a background filled with crap that should be put away:

See all that junk in the background?  We rarely eat at our dining room table because there is always something on there.  Right now:
  1. Canvas bags that will hold gun cleaning rods
  2. Sewing supplies
  3. Sewing machine
  4. Cardboard mailing tubes
  5. A wedding gift for someone I barely know
  6. A platter I made for my Mom for Christmas
Behind the table is the laundry drying rack.  We have always called it a Chinese Laundry.  Why?  I have no idea.  Is this part of the "Ancient Chinese Secret" we used to hear about on the Calgon commercials?  Were those racist?  You decide.

So, this is authentic Carter house while we were voting.  This is how authentic it looks most of the time.  Usually, about 5 minutes before my In-laws arrive, I do a mad dash through the house to pick up and sweep and/or vacuum.  Would I be more authentic if I were to just leave it this way and let them see the mess?  I might be more authentic, but I feel like I would look like a slob.  Am I authentically a slob?  I don't think so.  I think it's those people I live with.

I'm going to have to do more work on exploring my authenticity.  I'll let you know how it goes.
