Crafty

This weekend I was a little crafty.  I made a bag for a friend and, of course, forgot to take a picture of it before I gave it to her.  It was easy though so I'll make another and post it when I get a chance.

Back when The Boy shot his first deer I had his antlers professionally mounted.  I worked with a guy who did taxidermy, so I was always able to get things like that done cheaply.  I also had him do a pheasant for me and I had given him two more because I was going to do this great scene of pheasants "jumping up" on our big wall in the living room.  (Side note: By "jumpin up", I'm refering to what they do when you come upon them while hunting.  They are usually hiding in the brush and  when you get too close, they "jump up" and fly off.  It usually scares the tar out of you and then you have to recover and try to shoot.) But his freezer quit one weekend and my pheasants were in there and they went bad and I haven't gone pheasant hunting since.  So, we just have one lone pheasant on the wall along with two nice deer.  We have some good elk antlers too.  I think when Brown Eyed Man shot that elk, it was probably too expensive to have a full mount done.

One time when the Brown Eyed Man's Aunts were visiting, one of them said "I love your house, except for all the dead animals".  I love them.  They are beautiful.  The pheasant is my favorite and I could look at him all day.  It is amazing how many different color feathers they have.

I know, it's not everyone's idea of what should be in a home.  But it's our idea.  We have a really cool shelf up high that would look great with a bear or a cougar on it.

Anyhoo, I've had The Girl's antlers from her first deer for a couple of years now and I didn't want to do them traditionally.  I've been trying to come up with something unique.  Then I saw this picture on etsy:

I love it.  So pretty and simple.

So yesterday, with a little help from Brown Eyed Man, a sander, some wood, stain, hot glue and flowers, I made this:

Mine is a little more busy that hers but I still like it and The Girl likes it, which is most important. Brown Eyed Man does not approve "This is a male deer, he deserves better than to have flowers glued all over his antlers". 

I just think it's pretty.
