The Lamest Little City in the World

Did I mention I was going to Reno ALONE?  I left early Wednesday morning.  Stopped to get my rental car, which I rented on line for $ 35.10 per day.  Somehow, by the time I was ready to sign the contract by bill was over $ 300!  What the?  I was only using the damn thing for 2 days!  I talked her down to a little over $ 200, but give me a giant break.  What a scam.  Insurance, prepaid gas, whatever.

I hit the bricks and was at Lake Tahoe by 9 a.m.!
I took my own picture!  I overcame my fear of looking like a dorky loner and balanced my camera on a rock and took my own picture!

Later I met a friend for lunch in Reno and we went to a super cool sporting goods store called Scheels.  Never heard of it.  It was giant.  My friend Bill went off to stay at his family's cabin on the lake.  I went to off to stay at...Circus Circus.  I'm surprised I don't have cooties.

Apparently iron theft is a major problem at Circus Circus because they have to do this:

About 2 o'clock I decided to take a little stroll through  "The Biggest Little City in the World".  After about 15 minutes of wandering around aimlessly, I called my husband and asked whether there was some sort of "strip" or some place where all the action could be seen.  He said "Did you find that arch that says 'The Biggest Little City in the World'?"  Apparently I was already at the spot where all the action was.  There were around 42 pawn shops, a few tattoo parlors, 14 meth heads and some t-shirt stores.

I think that over half of the hotels and casinos were out of business and actually boarded up.  It super sucked.

I got up at the crack of dawn and drove to Fallon for a meeting.  That night a big group of us went to a basque restaurant at The Overland Hotel.  I would highly recommend the Picon Punch. They serve it in cordial glasses when they really should serve it in Mason jars.  It was by far the highlight of my trip.

I did take this really cool picture when I got back to my hotel.  This wasn't where I stayed but it was right next door.  I thought it was a great picture with the sunset in the background and the old neon sign.  Pretty proud of myself.

I managed to get back to the airport early in the morning and got myself a flight back to Portland so that I landed at 9:30 a.m.  I made it home in time to watch Perry Mason, mow my lawn, and take a nap!
