Last week, the Brown-eyed Man and I watched The Good The Bad and The Ugly for the 4,576th time. It was on tv but we have it on DVD too. In case you want to borrow it. Please borrow it. You don't have to bring it back. Please?
If I had remembered this movie prior to naming Clover, I would have jumped at the chance to name her Tuco. Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez Carter, aka The Ugly. While he's not particularly attractive in this movie, I wouldn't call Eli Wallach "ugly". Sergio Leone does a great job at showing the total squalor and filth of that era and lifestyle. You certainly can't beat Clint Eastwood (Blondie) dirty or not (some might say the dirtier the better) and Lee Van Cleef is acceptable if you like that look. But I love Tuco. Both his name and his personality. He's a terrible person, but he's so stupid it's funny.
Tuco is always talking about how there are "two kinds" of something. Examples: "There are two kinds of people in this world, my friend: Those with a rope around their neck and the people who have the job of doing the cutting." and "There are two kinds of spurs in this world, my friend: Those who come by the door and those who come by the window". At the end of the movie after endless hours of stupid stand-offs, after shooting Lee VanCleef (Angel Eyes - what? Who thought up these names?), and a ridiculous amount of time trying to outwit each other, Blondie finally gets the upper hand when they find the place where the confederate gold is buried and says: "There are two kinds of people in this world: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You Dig!" It's the best. You should see it. Do you want to borrow our DVD? You don't have to bring it back.
As you can see from the movie poster above, I have actually wasted about half an hour of my life inserting our animals' photos into the poster. I think Pierre Katmandu makes a great Blondie. He's no Clint Eastwood, but he is blondish. You can't tell from the photo, but Sweety Kitty has enormous eyes so the title of "Angel Eyes" fits her well. And then there is Tuco. She's certainly not ugly, but this dog is ruthless. Just yesterday she said "There are two kinds of cats in this world my friend, those who hate Clover and .......hey, what is that wagging thing attached to my butt?!"
